UAE’s AED1.8 Trillion Economy Attracted 230,000 Pakistanis in 2023

Every year, thousands of Pakistanis seek better opportunities abroad, with many choosing the UAE as their destination.

According to recent reports, over 230,000 Pakistanis migrated to the UAE in the past year alone, driven by the promise of improved prospects and economic stability.

Pakistani Migration Trends

The UAE is the second top destination for Pakistani migrants from South Asia, comprising 26.77% of all emigrants in 2023.

Currently, the UAE hosts a Pakistani expatriate community of 1.7 million, highlighting its appeal among professionals like doctors, engineers, and IT specialists seeking employment opportunities beyond Pakistan’s borders.

Regional Preferences

The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) region remains the primary choice for Pakistani migrants, with Saudi Arabia leading as the top destination, followed closely by the UAE.

In 2023, Saudi Arabia welcomed 426,951 Pakistani migrants, while the UAE attracted a substantial number, contributing to its diverse and growing expatriate population.

Economic Impact and Remittances

Pakistani migrants play a crucial role in their homeland’s economy through remittances. During the fiscal year of July-March 2024, remittances from the UAE alone totaled $3.7 billion, making it the second-largest source after Saudi Arabia.

These financial inflows support families back home and bolster Pakistan’s foreign exchange reserves, underscoring the economic significance of migrant communities in the UAE.

Currency Dynamics and Economic Outlook

The Pakistani rupee has experienced fluctuations against the Emirati dirham over the past decade, reflecting broader economic trends and exchange rate dynamics between the two countries.

This exchange rate plays a pivotal role in determining the value of remittances and influencing economic strategies in both Pakistan and the UAE.

The UAE continues to attract Pakistani migrants seeking employment opportunities and economic stability, contributing significantly to both countries’ economies.

As migration patterns evolve and economic ties deepen, understanding these dynamics becomes crucial for policymakers and individuals alike navigating global labor markets and economic landscapes.

This highlights the pivotal role of Pakistani migrants in shaping the UAE’s demographic and economic landscapes, underscoring their contributions and the enduring appeal of the Emirates as a destination for aspiring professionals from Pakistan.
