An International Driving Permit (IDP) is an identity paper or license that permits the possessor to drive a personal motor or vehicle in any country that identifies IDPs. You can also make an IDP through different license centers in Pakistan.
The IDP, which is a little larger than a passport, is a multi-language translation of the driver’s licence from the issuing nation, with photograph and essential figures. Many people who travel from country to country apply for IDP for their convenience in other countries.
How To Get International Driving License?
If you want an IDP then you will have to follow this simple procedure:
- Download, print and fill up the International Driving Form from
- Attach three recent passport size photographs
- Photocopy of legal passport and Visa copy
- Photocopy of local driving licence
- Photocopy of Computerized National Identity Card (CNIC)
- Medical Certificate
The method & process will largely remain same no matter you visit driving license center in Lahore, Karachi, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Quetta or Peshwar because all provinces including Punjab, Sindh, Balochistan & KPK have the same traffic regulations.
The documents requirements are also same bu8tb don’t forget to bring your original passport, CNIC & driving license when visiting the license center because without original documents your application will not be processed.
Currently no online application process is available in Pakistan for obtaining IDP so applicants are required to visit license centers to get IDP issued.
The fees and charges for IDP will differ in these provinces and the processing time will also depend on whether the area has a computerized system such as DLIMS Punjab, Driving Licence Sindh (DLS) or it is a manual system such as in Balochistan.

Pakistani citizens who work or have business in Arab countries also prefer to apply for International Driving Permit or otherwise they are required to apply for driving license in Saudi Arabia or Bahrain which is more difficult to obtain.
