Rafi Cricket Stadium is an under construction stadium in Bahria Town Karachi, which on completion will be the biggest state-of-the-art cricket stadium in Pakistan.
It is not a simple cricket stadium but the project consists of Sports complex which is part of Bahria Sports City Karachi, becoming a hub for sports.
Start of Construction:
The ground breaking ceremony of the stadium was held on April 14, 2019 during which Chairman of Bahria Town, Malik Riaz started the ceremony by pressing the start button of the first crane on the site.
He indicated that the stadium will be completed in 2 years, but it seems that it was delayed. The construction is in progress but there is no official detail about completion date and inauguration.
The event was participated by many renowned cricketers including Javed Miandad, Shahid Afridi, Zaheer Abbas, Shoaib Muhammad, Umar Akmal & Fawad Alam.
Design:
Rafi Cricket Stadium is designed by GMP Germany which is a renowned international architectural company. They have designed dozens of stadiums around the world such as Santiago Bernabéu Stadium (Spain), Arena da Amazônia (Brazil), National Stadium Warsaw (Poland) and Dubai International Cricket Stadium.
The structure is designed by Boston-based Simpson SGH, façade by Germany SBP Consultants and M&B (Mushtaq & Bilal) while MEP is designed by SMC (S. Mehboob & Company) Pakistan.
It is being designed as per the ICC Standards which means in future international series can also be scheduled in this stadium.
Capacity:
It is expected that the capacity of Rafi Cricket Stadium, Karachi will be for 50,000 people which will be spread over three layers. This mega capacity will make it a bigger cricket stadium than the renowned National Stadium Karachi and Gaddafi Stadium Lahore.
The stadium will also comes with a parking space of 10,000 cars which makes it the biggest parking area for the biggest stadium of Pakistan.
Other Facilities:
The project not only consists of a cricket stadium but also comes with a cricket academy which will be a place from where new talented players will be polished to become part of national team of Pakistan.
