NEPRA Reduced Tariff 3 Months Ago, Users Still Paying More

water and electricity minsitryIslamabad: Three months before, NEPRA had announced a basic reduction in the tariff, but the ministry of water and electricity have still not issued a notification which has resulted in the users to give about rupees 15 billion additional charges till now. According to a private channel, NEPRA had announced a reduction in the electricity and water tariff by 24 Paisas till 1 rupee 65 Paisas in each unit, but three months have passed since this notification was passed and still there has been no notification issued to date.

This delay in the notification has resulted in the consumers to pay about additional 15 billion rupees. NEPRA had announced a reduction of 1 rupee and 9 Paisas per unit for houses using 100 units monthly, while a reduction of 1 rupee and 67 Paisas was announced for the category of 101 units till 200 units. NEPRA announced a reduction of 1 rupee for the category of 301 till 700 units, while a reduction of 50 Paisas per unit was announced for the category of domestic users for more than 700 units monthly.

NEPRA announced a reduction of 1 rupee per unit for all the commercial, industrial and agricultural users. According to the NEPRA Act, the ministry of water and electricity is obliged to issue a notification immediately after any decision made by NEPRA. The delay in the notification by the ministry of treasury, water and electricity, the distributing companies are charging additional money from the users.
