The captain of Pakistan cricket team Misbah Ul Haq has become only the third Pakistani cricketer to represent Pakistan in international Test cricket after the age of forty. Misbah Ul Haq earned this achievement when he took part in the ongoing Test against Sri Lanka in Galle at the age of 40 years and 70 days.
Misbah-Ul-Haq joined former cricketers Meeran Bakhsh who played at the age of 47 and Ameer Ilahi who was 44 years old when he played his last Test match. Misbah Ul Haq also has the honor of being the oldest cricketer to captain the Pakistan cricket team which he earned when leading the team in Sharjah.
Misbah Ul Haq is also the eldest cricketer playing Test cricket at present and is followed by Shivnarain Chanderpaul of West Indies who is aged 39 years and 355 days. These records don’t just pose Misbah as an old cricketer but are a testament to his great skill and fitness that he is still able to perform so well at the top level at an age when most cricketers hang up their gloves and call it a day. Pakistanis hope that he can keep up his fitness and keep performing well for the team for more years to come.
