Pakistan Telecom Authority has provided three options to the overseas Pakistanis. We are mentioning here the options and conditions one by one for ease of the readers. For the Pakistanis who are residing abroad but have their SIMs present in Pakistan may change the ownership of the SIM to another Family member. The other case according to which the SIM may also not be present in Pakistan along with the owner and is not on International roaming. Such a SIM if not verified under the biometric verification system until the deadline shall be blocked by PTA whereas the cellular service providing companies will not issue the same number to anyone else for the period of one year.
The SIMs used by overseas Pakistanis which have International Roaming activated. Owner of such SIMs have to go through different procedure. The cellular network will send the message to the users of International Roaming service in order to re-verify their SIMs this will be the initial phase of the verification which will be used to assess the genuineness of the SIM user. This preliminary process will ask for some basic information from the subscriber like the Computerized National Identity Card number along with Name of Mother and place of Birth. The data initially collected will be verified with the help of Data available with NADRA (National Database and Registration Authority). If this initial verification is done successfully the SIM will be classified as ‘Temporarily Verified’ which can only be verified until March, 31 2016 under the Biometric verification System. If the SIM is not re-verified until the said date it will be blocked. The subscribers who are using the International roaming facility in Afghanistan will not be able to undergo this procedure they need to re-verify it by themselves when they return to Pakistan.
