NADRA to Add Facial Recognition Feature to Pak-ID App.
The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has announced the launch of a facial recognition verification service through its Pak-ID mobile app and registration centers nationwide, starting January 15, 2025.
This initiative aims to modernize the biometric and identity verification process. A consultative conference at NADRA’s headquarters brought together regulators and officials from various sectors to discuss improvements in the system.
Challenges in identity verification and measures to streamline services for citizens were key points of discussion. NADRA’s chairman highlighted the difficulties faced under the current system, particularly by pensioners and elderly citizens with faint fingerprints.
He stressed the need for innovative solutions and system upgrades to address these issues. The introduction of facial recognition technology was widely welcomed, with participants emphasizing its potential to enhance access to services and reduce delays.
NADRA’s spokesperson noted that the facility would be available both at centers and via the Pak-ID app, ensuring greater convenience. The conference also explored the use of iris recognition technology for identity verification, considering its benefits and challenges.
