Government of Pakistan has launched Machine Readable Passport (MRP), for Pakistan as per International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and Standards. All Pakistani Nationals holding valid or expired Pakistani passports can apply for MRP. The Machine Readable Passport has been included with special safety characteristics designed to check human trafficking and falsification. Pakistan is first in the South Asia that has moved towards machine-readable travelling documents.
Processing of MRP application includes recording of biometric data, photographing, taking the applicant’s personal data is obligatory at the Consulate Concerned.
MRP applicants must have valid computerized National Identity Card (CNIC) or National Identity card for Overseas Pakistani (NICOP) issued by NADRA with its 2 – photocopies. Senior citizens (65 years and above) are not required to renew their CNIC. Applicants below 18 years should hold NICOP or RG-2 Form / Child Registration Certificate issued by NADRA.
In case of change of a female applicant’s name due to marriage, the applicant ought to have her NICOP/CNIC card changed to the married name previous to apply for MRP showing the married status on the Marriage Certificate.
Renewal of passport or expired password is issued if Validity of MRP has ended or expiring within next six months. NOC is required in case of a Government Servant.
