IRO PhD Scholarships at KU Leuven, Belgium

KU Leuven is located in the heart of Western Europe. It has been the center of education for about six centuries. It was established by Pope Martin V in 1425. KU Leuven is the oldest existing catholic university as well as the oldest university in the Low Countries.

The rich history of KU Leuven has provided it much fame in the international boundaries. As international co-operation is very much necessary for any university because today the universities are judged only by their international standards of research. KU Leuven comes in the top ten universities of Europe in regards to scholarship, teaching and is internationally respected in a large number of fields.

KU Leuven provides scholarship each year as it is one of the contributions of development co-operation. The university provides PHD scholarship to the admirable students of developing countries in the largest university of Belgium. Such programs are controlled and directed by the interfaculty council for Development co-operation.

From the last ten years the IRO Doctoral Scholarship program has supported hundreds of PHD students. Scholarship program for the recent year has started from 01st November 2013 till 15th January 2014. Selection of candidates will take place from January- April 2014. From April–May 2014 the international admission and mobility unit of the university will send an official admission letter and scholarship attestations to the candidates selected. The candidates have to apply for the Belgian student visa from May-august 2014 and get ready for their travel to KU Leuven. Arrival at the university is on 1st October 2014.

The benefits that KU Leuven provides its scholarship students are 75% of the net salary of an assistant (1383 euro) per month. Housing payment of 200 euro per month if accompanying with partner (and children). Social security coverage of child allowance, health insurance. Will be affiliated with a Belgian health insurance company. Return flight tickets for whole family after completion.

Eligibility conditions for candidates are that the candidate should a citizen of least developed countries, low income countries or low middle income countries. There should not be a gap of over ten years between MA degree and date of submission of scholarship form. Excellent academic and research project results.

As Pakistan comes in the categories of country that are listed by the OEDC DAC table. So the student from Pakistan who are eligible for the IRO PHD scholarship program can apply for it as it is an excellent chance for them to seek knowledge.
