Steps To Study: Read the poem aloud. What kind of sound do you think the words have? Do you think it is an effective device (sound produced y words) in poems? Explain your answer. Approaching A Poem: The correct way to approach the poem: Read through the poem at least twice. The first time, once through without stopping. The second time, pick out words and phrases that are difficult to understand or seem interesting. Once you have worked out the difficult words or phrases, read through the poem again, slower, giving it more attention and imagination. Take note of your feelings and where your attention is drawn to.

Make notes on the poem. Do not be afraid to write on the margins of the poem. This will help remind you of your reactions and your thoughts. Make sure your notes are short but clear.
