– ISIS militants reportedly demanded the release of Dr Aafia Siddiqui, a Pakistani, in exchange for American journalist James Foley and other Western prisoners, according to social media reports.
In an email mailed to Foley’s family, the militants claimed they had asked “prisoner exchanges to free the Muslims at present in your custody” including Dr Sidiqqui.
Dr Aafia Sidiqqui, who got educated at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. She was arrested in Ghazni, Afghanistan in 2008. She was consequently sentenced to 86 years in prison after being convicted of trying to kill US military workforce, flashing protests across Pakistan demanding her release. An appeal to the White House also asking for her release has gathered around 110,000 signatures in August. She is being under arrested at a prison in Texas.
“After the militants had shown to the Foleys and investigators that they were in fact holding Jim, they made their only demand for money of 100 million Euros (about $132 million) or the release of not mentioned prisoners held by the United States,” the news-site said.
The man who killed Foley, who speaks with a British accent, speaks to the US President, saying: “The life of this American citizen, Obama, depends on your next decision.”
“We consider the text offers approaching into the inspiration and strategy of the Islamic State,” it added.
Isis, which has marauded across vast areas of Iraq in current months, on Tuesday published a video showing one of its members beheading Foley. Foley, a photojournalist, was reporting from Syria for Global Post and other passages including AFP when he was kidnapped in November 2012.
The US government is against paying such money, arguing that it only supports more kidnapping
“We do not make compromise with terrorists. It includes: We would not pay ransoms,” Marie Harf told to reporters Thursday.
