Army Chief Unhappy With PM Nawaz Shareef; US Newspaper

Washington: American newspaper The Newyork Times says that it is a well known secret that Pakistan Army Chief General Raheel Sharif is unhappy with Prime minister Nawaz Sharif for not allowing Pervez Musharraf to leave the country. Pervez Musharraf is currently facing charges of treason and is on trial in the country.

On the other hand rumors of close ties existing between the Army and Tahir Ul Qadri have made the public believe in the possibility of a military takeover following anti-government protests by Tahir Ul Qadri and the PTI. Imran Khan has also hinted at Army interference if the protests fail and has said if the Army takes over it would be Nawaz Sharif’s fault. However both the leaders have denied being in contact with the Army.

Although there is little actual evidence of a possible army coup and it seems highly unlikely, there are indications of disagreement between PM Nawaz and Raheel Sharif over the matter of Pervez Musharraf.

Nawaz Sharif has the support of PPP and Jamat e islami who have tried to make the conflicting parties of Imran Khan and Nawaz Sharif reach a settlement, however Nawaz Shariff has said he will oppose any protests on 14th August if negotiations fail. The NewYork Times also reported that clashes have taken place throughout Punjab between Tahir Ul Qadri supporters and the police in which several people have been killed and injured. Tahir Ul Qadri has announced protests to topple the government of the PML-N.
