Lahore: Popular film, television and theatre actress Zara Akbar has announced that she will leave Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and join Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI). She made this announcement when speaking to journalists of a local news agency and said that she was leaving PPP due to disagreement with the party’s current policies.
Actress Zara Akbar had been affiliated with the Pakistan People’s Party for a long period of almost twenty years. She had been a loyal supporter of the PPP for twenty years mainly because of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto who was an ideal for her. But since her death, Zara Akbar feels the party has deviated from her vision and the party’s policies have not been to her liking.
Zara Akbar also stated that PPP has done nothing for the common people of Pakistan during their rule, especially for actors and people associated with the entertainment industry. She still considers Shaheed Benazir Bhutto as the best politician of Pakistan and said that she will remain her ideal till her last breath.
Zara Akbar sees PTI as a rising political force in the country and believes that Imran Khan is the right man to lead the charge for a new and better Pakistan. Answering a question she also revealed that she had voted for PTI in the previous elections and that she would do her best to help the party achieve its goals.
